My hope was the US get their act together and play as cohesive group and help prevent a Churchills debacle. The Axis 'bonded' but the Yanks didn't/haven't.

I have to say though, all 'groups' including PBI are very quiet...

Thing is, there aren't many natural leaders amongst the Yanks or indeed any big characters like the Brits have. They're a pretty benign bunch.

Having said that, from experience, there aren't many natural followers amongst them either!!!

Baaaaaaaaah! Perhaps they could have a Division De Mouton ?

TBH as much as he's a pain in the rear at times , Josh's lads work well together .

Aye, that's airsofters for you!

However, Rhys is confident and enthusiastic and ought to be able to lead - so there is no reason why he can't get things sorted.

Apparently Webby's got a bee in his bonnet about the Brits getting all the good scenarios!??!??

What's that all about?

My response to the above from Speirs is usually - you can't win if you've gone home.

My thoughts on it are really that its all about direction.

Yith and I had an idea and their is a fixed goal, get a section of ten brits together that look pretty much historically accurate, we're pretty much there.

Then find exciting games for us to do together, if we can learn 40s skills and drills for the fun of it.

Its not a massive goal, i dont want my own battalion (i think stubble hopper wanting a platoon is a tad unrealistic).

Rhyss annoyed me a bit too by being all up for PBI thenas soon as we went public they decided they had to do doughboys and he backed out on the pretext he couldn't afford to get a different kit but then buys a set of german stuff.

So far from what i can see the doughboys have spent three weeks arguing over what badge to wear, at least we've booked a game and a training day and i've partly written the scenario overview etc.

I just feel you *cannot* run a team like that by comittee, all things in life suffer from loss of purity in the concept the more people you have guiding it.

Although we have four of us running PBI its really what rich and I want with keen and capable help form evo and major. As someones said, we just went 'its like this - buy in or dont'

But were flexible too. Playing for PBI means you dont have to be one uniform, their are four alternate sets to pics from and (although we initially disagreed on this) doing '2 commando' is just iconic, its a dagger its hard to get territorial about your fave units and staffords makes sense seeing as 25 people already have the kit from arnhem.

As for spiers, well i went out of my way to be friendly to him between games but in game he was just a total cock, cheat calling, swearing at other players and having an explosion at an F&o regualr for blind firing to the point where he was very close to a site ban.

On the day i felt the us played better than ever before but the brit comandos *really* seemed to play as a unit.

Doh! forgot to say - but you can guess surely?
Who says Fallschirmjager every 30 seconds? 'Tis the Major or course!

Very valid points you make Gadge - plus I didn't know what Spiers had been up to yesterday.

As an aside, Doughboys isn't run by a committee it's run by Rhys - up to him to sort shit!

Ah but practically it is, take the 'what unit will we be' debate.

If he has just said 'we're doing 29th inf div and 101st airborne - get the badges'

They would have had direction as it is, everything they do has been debated to death.

Rhyss blatantly doesn't have any definitive say in things :)

While we're discussing this i remember being annoyed at the time abut all this as Webby as well was all on board for PBI and we now seem to have lost two lads who were up for it for something that may well fizzle out.

Oh well, we'll see how we get on in the run up to varisty and the training day, hopefully i'll be properly mobile in a week or so.

To be fair I think he was being polite by canvassing opinion on what groups to portray - but the lukewarm response should have told him either 'we ain't bothered, you set the agenda and we we will follow' or alternatively 'we ain't bothered if we all have different badging'.

So, yes you are right Gadge, if he want's to run a group he needs to start running a group!

Anyhoo, what do you think about Andy's Fallshy request? It's not possible to say no is it!

please remove me from their mods group chomley as its basically dead now.

thanks

Rhys

Right, all six of us have been discussing this at length all day.

Nothing is 'dead' - you have yet to start it!

I can't make out what you want to achieve and why you think you have failed.

This isn't a 14 year old's airsoft gang - it's a long term adult team, members of which live 100's of miles apart.

Please don't think any other 'side' is 'better' because they are not. Switching sides will not improve a thing, sticking to what you have started will!

You must take a lead. No one will thank you (feck the CiA have spent several hundreds of hours collectively to raise the profile of WW2 airsoft and not once have expected thanks or appreciation) you do it because you said you will do it!

The thing is the US need bonding - Doughboys is a way to do it. If chaps appear apathetic it's because priorities vary. There needs to be a clear idea of direction - I don't think discussion about badges is the be all and end all. The SS and Heer groups are both unbadged and have a general remit, PBI is very tightly focussed - bit all have some idea of an objective.

Have another think Rhys - you are bright, enthusiastic and resourceful. Give the Yanks the push they need!

David

Im not after gratitude or help David. I think HS put me across wrong when he put my thoughts forward to you all. I was simply asking him if he was staying german or not as I'd enjoyed being under his command at churchills, and conveying my general unhappyness about the doughboys. it wasnt meant for you all to discuss it at length just to let you know we were having discussions about changing the doughboys.

the problem is david that everyone bar webby and to a lesser extent tom doesnt seem to want anything serious US wise. they dont seem to want to train or bond better as a unit. I had to fight to even get the training day idea off the ground. and when help was promised from the other DB's none was forthcoming. I got a bit annoyed at having to try and organise it all when no one seemed to want me to. I understand if thats what they want. each of us enjoy airsoft in a different way. I cant and wont tell them how to play but I wont spend time organising something people dont want to do.

I never thought any side was better than the other and I Never thought this was a 14 yr olds gang give me more credit than that. What I did think from the initial doughboy thread was the US Players wanted to bond and work together more. something which I(and others) feel has been lacking from the US side alot.

I wanted to emulate what the germans have, ie good social atmosphere, work well in a team, and play well together. That was our goal. that was what we wanted but people have now said they dont want that. I dont feel I've failed. More feel like what people wanted has changed.

yes we picked units etc but we also said you dont have to use them. we didnt set required kit or anything like that. we tried to be as unstrict as possible but people didnt seem to want to do it. cant flog a dead horse and force them.

yea im upset about it because I thought it'd work so I will reconsider it over night but I cant see peoples opinions changing. I will think it over though because the yank side needs a social playing group too.

Josh has sent me a similar PM to yours so maybe it will get revived but the views people have put to me over the last week made it clear people wanted something more casual

We have discussed it at length because it is an important issue to the WW2 community.

'What I did think from the initial doughboy thread was the US Players wanted to bond and work together more. something which I(and others) feel has been lacking from the US side alot.' This is a worthwhile aim.

The Axis 'bonding' has a lot to do with people knowing each other - Helga's related group; Guy, Kermit and me knowing each other from the start; Porta's related group etc. It just happened and hasn't been manufactured.

That's why Doughboys starting off with a bunch of chaps who know each other is the best plan - something that can be built on over time, not in four or five weeks.

Anyhoo, I see you have cleared the decks in your section. Set your stall out: Clear objectives - short and long term. Something that both new and established players can latch onto...

Keep at it, it will take time

David

fair enough wasnt sure if HS had put me across wrong as he does have a odd view on things now n then.

I knew you CiA folk knew each other beforehand didnt realise the rest did.

My biggest problem here is that I really do want to get the doughboys working and bonding etc but they didnt seem to want to. cant force it.

cleared the decks down anyway as I figured it'd be easier for them to start a fresh what ever decision I made.

I said I'd mull it over so I will. I'll ponder it over the next day or so and see how I feel. I would love it to work but currently I dont feel it can. I'll let you know in a day or three how I feel about taking it further again.

Rhys

Aye, don't stress yourself! All things are possible with time and endeavour!

'Bonding' comes through working (playing!) together over time. A big bonus would be having new players somewhere to start too - have you seen first time players looking lost in the car park at the start of a game. How cool would it be if Rhys introduced them to the Doughboys at the start - not only would they enjoy the game from the start but the game and community would benefit too!

Anyhoo, I'll leave you alone now more to life than airsoft!

Cheers
David

Hehe indeed there is. infact im playing that operation market garden mod on COD at the moment. its not bad but could use some polishing.

It would be good for US players to have a home but we'll see. if I do go for it I think a re-organisation of co-organisers would be in order. anyway I'll let you know in a day or so

thanks for the support and kind words. Much appreciated

Hah!!! What odd view on things do I have!!? Why does he feel I've misrepresented him in some way??

Funny.

Is it perhaps time for me to but my boot into the Doughboys group and get them going? Dunno, maybe after Christmas. I'd rather it was more 'by the punters, for the punters' sort of thing though.

Right, next game I'm going to be NCO for the Yanks. Get them moving and fighting cohesively.

Hmmit seems the doughboys training day is being run by SH now.

Hes just told them the title of the day and what they are doing.

I'm all for direction i just dont know how Webbys going to take that.

I have sneaky suspicion this will turn into more of an SS target practice day :)

I'm in convo with Rhys so all is cool.
Stubble has offered to do the training for the Doughboys so that is what he has busied himself with. He seems to have taken the two previous days into account and has moved from formal sessions to practical modules - this looks to be more akin to teaching by playing rather than teaching by being taught. And seems a good idea too.

Sure, he is turning it into an opportunity but I have no problem with that given the effort he is putting in. Very dubious about involving foreigners in it though - doubt that will come to anything (I hope it won't!).
